POLICE OFFICER SENT TO HOSPITAL AFTER NEEDLE STICK INJURY

May 19, 2018
A police officer had to be sent to hospital after getting pricked by a needle as he attempted to detain a 44-year-old man last night.

He was trying to help detain the male, who was being arrested so he could be recalled to prison, when he was pricked by the needle - the man then stated he has hepatitis C.

Chief Inspector John Owen, commander of the Stoke-on-Trent North policing team says it is a worrying time for the officer as colleagues fear he could need three months of anti-viral medication.

While the officer was taken to hospital there is no further update on if he received any injuries from the needle.
