The Exposure Control Plan shall ...reflect changes in technology that eliminate or reduce exposure to bloodborne pathogens
Blood Sampling Systems:
Conventional blood sampling procedures have many inherent risks to the clinician including accidental needlestick, infection control, blood loss, and blood exposure. Newer Technologies makes it possible to minimize the risks associated with blood sampling.

VACUETTE® Blood Collection Tubes

 VACUETTE® Blood Collection Tubes

VACUETTE® Blood Collection Tubes made out of PET plastic

The innovative “Sandwich Tube” for coagulation tests consists of two parts. An inner and an outer tube. The outer tube is manufactured from PET and ensures that the vacuum is preserved for a long time. The inner tube made out of polypropylene keeps the volume of the additive constant. Thanks to the double walls, the VACUETTE “Sandwich tube” has a long shelf life, even without additional packaging.

The advantages of using an evacuated blood collection system made out of plastic has been well known for a long time. It is of the greatest importance to produce high quality samples and analysis results, along with minimized risk of infection to staff. Greiner Bio-One can offer a complete range of evacuated blood collection tubes made out of virtually unbreakable PET-plastic. All of them are equipped with a unique safety cap, which also offers maximum security to healthcare workers. Coagulation is a critical testing area proving to be a challenge to some manufacturers. Not for us at Greiner.

S-Monovette® Blood Collection System

Aspiration method:

The S-Monovette® and needle are assembled immediately prior to collection. After venipuncture, the plunger is withdrawn slowly until the tube is filled.

Vacuum method:

A vacuum is formed immediately prior to collection by locking the piston into the base of the S-Monovette® and breaking off the plunger. After the vein is punctured, the evacuated S-Monovette® is connected to the needle.

The S-Monovette® is an enclosed multiple-sampling blood collection system that utilizes either an aspiration or vacuum method of collection.  The aspiration method of collection virtually eliminates syringe draws and provides a closed connection for line draws.  The system includes tubes in a full range of volumes and additives, multi-sampling needles with pre-assembled holders, needle protection devices, and safety winged blood collection sets.

Safety Features and Benefits:

Using the S-Monovette® aspiration method of collection minimizes needlestick injuries by eliminating the practice of drawing blood from a vein or in-line system into a syringe and back sticking into a blood tube. The all-plastic screw cap tubes minimize breakage and the aerosol effect. The multi-sampling needles with pre-assembled holders are not reusable and prevent any risk of needlestick injury that may occur by unscrewing a contaminated needle from the holder.

Microvette® Capillary Blood Collection System

Mechanics of the Device:

100 and 200µl: Holding the device horizontally, collect blood until the assembled capillary is filled.  Rotate the tube upright to allow the blood to flow into the Microvette® tube.  Turn the cap to remove and discard the pre-assembled capillary as one unit.  Remove the preassembled recap from the base and seal the Microvette®.  300 and 500µl: Remove the twist cap and attach it to the base of the Microvette®.  Collect blood using any part of the collection rim.  Remove the cap from the base and seal the Microvette®.

Sarstedt’s Microvette® Capillary Blood Collection System is a safe and reliable system for the collection of 100 to 500µl.  Microvette® 100 and 200, for 100 and 200µl volumes respectively, are designed with pre-assembled capillaries for optimal volume control but can also be used without a capillary. Microvette® 300 and 500, for 300 and 500µl volumes respectively, are designed with special rims for the gravity flow principle of collection. Both versions have twist caps to minimize aerosols and are available in a full range of additives. The special conical design of the inner tube of the Microvetteâ 100 to 300 ensures optimal serum/plasma recovery after centrifugation.

Safety Features and Benefits:

Sarstedt’s Microvette® Capillary Blood Collection system features an easy-to-use twist cap to reduce exposure to bloodborne pathogens via aerosols.  Smooth tube interiors prevent sample hold-up, allowing optimal sample mixing and recovery.    Each Microvette® is marked with the expiration date and lot number.
