“...there will always be some degree of under-reporting of cases of HIV infection. There is much reluctance among employees to come forward and report these cases.” Dr. Adelisa Panlilio
Blood Bank Devices:
Various devices that provide protection during the transfer of blood from drawing tubes to syringes. Blood bank safety devices also include safety segment slitters that eliminate the need for cutting the segment open with scissors thus preventing dispersion of blood aerosols.

Tube Segment Opener

 Instructions for Use:

Insert a Tube Segment Opener into a labeled test tube. Insert the tube segment into the opener at a slight angle and push in. To dispense a small volume of blood, squeeze the end of the tube once. To empty the segment, fold the tube and squeeze it. For typing systems that require pipetting of micro sample volumes, invert the device and insert the tube segment from underneath. Squeeze the segment until the opener’s reservoir is filled. Pipette the required quantity.

Safety Features and Benefits:

The process of cutting segments with scissors puts healthcare workers at risk for exposure to bloodborne pathogens. The Sarstedt Tube Segment Opener helps to minimize the risk of exposure, as well as the potential for cross-contamination between segments. Options are available for both 10mm and 12mm diameter tubes, as well as a pre-assembled 12mm version.
